What can we expect from a reading specialist?
Student building words Orton Gillingham Tutor reading

Initially, the reading specialist will speak with you to learn about your child’s academic background, including their participation in reading intervention, whether they have an IEP, their areas of strength and interest, and any other relevant details you would like to share.

The reading specialist will informally assess the reading and writing/spelling strengths and needs of your child.  A plan of instruction will be created based on your child's learning style, personality, and interests and collaborated with you.

A good reading specialist should also include spelling and writing as an essential part of the reading process. Research shows that reading and spelling have a close relationship to one another because spelling and reading rely on the same underlying knowledge of a word.
